Kandahar Hotel, Val d'Isere

Charming hotel near to ski slopes

featured in Hotels

Built in 1955, this is one of the original Val d'Isere hotels. Constructed of wood and stone, and renovated to a high standard, it remains faithful to the architectural style of the Haute Tarentaise.

Conveniently located in the heart of Val d’Isère, near the Tourist Office and opposite the famous Bellevarde Face.

It offers 41 charming rooms and suites; half of which are designed for families with a bunk bed corner for the children and a large room for the parents. Junior suites are cosy and intimate with hand carved wood furniture and soft fabrics that evoke the warmth and comfort of a mountain chalet. Cosy and comfortably refined, all rooms are equipped with hair dryer, direct dial phone line and satellite TV. Guests are welcome to have breakfast delivered to their room or to partake in the large buffet on the first floor.

After a big day on the slopes, enjoy a relaxing moment in the sauna or steam bath. Continue to unwind in the warmth of the bar’s fireplace, sharing a well-deserved drink among friends. Extra services such as massages or babysitting can be booked on request.

Other facilities include individual ski lockers and ski boots dryers; indoor parking is available at an extra charge.

The Bar

The hotel bar has a spectacular view of the Bellevarde Face and the warmth of the fireplace makes it a great place to relax.

The Restaurant

Restaurant La Taverne d’Alsace offers something for all palettes with its hearty and savoury mix of French classics and regional specialities, as well as some traditional dishes from the Alsace region of France, as the name of the restaurant implies.

Chef Michel Wehrung’s Alsatian heritage appear on the menu in the form of Tarte Flambée, Salad Strasbourgeoise, Alsace style snails, Choucroute Royale and Baeckeoffe. You can also expect to enjoy a selection of cheese dishes from the Savoie and a generous and eclectic wine list.

Visitor comments

  • "Really surprised to find such quality of furniture and fittings. Refurbished in 2015 to very high standard. Garage. Breakfast excellent and restaurant needs booking during busy times as so popular. Staff are outstanding, some of the best ever found in hotels." - Trip Advisor
  • "We have just returned from a weekend skiing in Val d'Isere and stayed at the Kandahar which was lovely. It is very traditional and alpine in style and is in an amazing position. Our room was more than large enough with a nice large bathroom. The breakfast was really good and we will return again next year - what better recommendation can you give!" - Trip Advisor
  • "Just returned from a stay at The Kandahar for a week and we have to say that we couldn't praise it enough. We have stayed at many 3* hotels in various ski resorts but this is definitely more of a 4*." - Trip Advisor
