Shar Pei Chalet
5 bedroom Apartment in Val d'Isere. Sleeps 10
Shar Pei has to have one of the best locations in Val d'Isere. This elegant free standing chalet sits right on the front de neige and overlooks the Calabourdanne river. The chalet is set over four levels and has humbling views from the huge south facing terrace. Equally perfect for families wanting to combine a little bit of extra luxury with being able to stumble onto the lifts in the morning; or friends looking for a cool alpine retreat in the perfect location. The chalet also has it's own 6mx3m pool and Turkish Hammam.
Shar Pei is all about the spectacular light that enters through the south facing windows on the top floor. Huge reclaimed wood beams and a wrap-around terrace really gives the feeling of space and the design draws the surrounding mountains into the chalet. Natural stone and wood floors harmonise with the rawness of the surrounding mountains, and the soft cosy linens and natural wools combine beautifully with bespoke industrial pieces that have been built and designed especially for the property from a family cherry farm near Paris. Michel Covarel spectacularly captures a timeless feel with his architecture and delivers time after time and Shar Pei is no exception. You don't really need many works of art on the walls here because nature has provided them all around.
The top floor is a huge open plan living and dining space which has a double height fireplace and a dramatic floral chandelier. The space truly transforms after dark with the village lighting up all around the chalet. Nighttime is certainly special in Shar Pei, the views of the Solaise and Bellvarde mountains are hugely imposing and add lots of drama to your evening supper.
There are five bedrooms in total, four ensuite and one additional bunk room suitable for children. Two ensuite bedrooms are situated on the ground floor and this is where you will find the extra room attached to the bedroom that overlooks the river. Leading up to the first floor is where you will find two expansive rooms each with their own bathrooms and amazing views, the river side room has a more suite feel to it. All of the bedrooms can be configured as a king or a twin and of course come with their own private bathrooms with the exception of the bunk room which shares with the adjoining room.
Down to the basement level you will find your private spa area. The 6mx3m pool is a great place to relax after a day on the hill and overlooks the stream and there is also a Turkish tiled hammam to soothe the bones. Massages can taken in this area or equally in the privacy of your room.
There's also a driving service on hand should you require it.
