Discover the latest Val d'Isere snow conditions
Val d’Isère feels firmly in winter mode this week. The village has settled into a steady rhythm, with cold mornings and clear views up towards Bellevarde and Solaise where the pistes are now well defined. Snow cover has been building consistently since the start of December and there is a noticeable improvement in how the mountain is skiing compared to earlier in the season. It feels like conditions are starting to align for more reliable days on the slopes.
Current snow depths in Val d’Isère are sitting at around 55 cm at resort level and close to 90 cm on the upper mountain. Snowfall earlier in the month helped establish a solid base, particularly above 2,300 metres, and recent cold nights have allowed that snow to settle and firm up. Forecasts for the coming days suggest some light to moderate snowfall at mid and high altitude, with totals of around 5 to 8 cm possible through the middle of the week. Temperatures are expected to remain below freezing at altitude, especially overnight and in the mornings, helping to preserve snow quality on prepared pistes. Lower runs have improved but still feel thinner underfoot, while higher terrain is skiing with more confidence and consistency.
The weather outlook for the rest of the week points towards generally cold and stable conditions, with the chance of occasional light snowfall mainly affecting the upper slopes. This should allow piste teams to maintain good surface conditions and gradually improve coverage. Val d’Isère is also hosting the Women’s Alpine Ski World Cup on the Face de Bellevarde, with elite racers competing on one of the most iconic courses in the sport. The presence of the World Cup adds a real buzz around the resort, with training sessions, race preparations and spectators bringing extra energy to the village. Alongside the racing, the build up to the festive period is well underway, with seasonal events and activities beginning to appear across the resort.
Val d’Isère is offering increasingly reliable skiing at altitude, with a solid base, cold temperatures and a small amount of fresh snow expected to maintain conditions. For the best experience over the next few days, focus on higher lifts and main pistes where coverage is strongest. Lower slopes remain more variable, but the overall direction is positive as the season continues to build.
