Val d’Isère feels settled and confidently wintry this week, with the mountains looking full and well shaped after the snowfall earlier in January. The high bowls above the village are holding their cover nicely, and even the lower slopes have a calm, consistent feel that regulars will recognise. The season feels properly established now, and conditions on the mountain are reliable and familiar rather than changeable.
Snow and Weather Summary
Current snow depths are sitting at around 220 to 240cm at altitude, with approximately 110 to 130cm at resort level. There has been little fresh snowfall over the past few days, although occasional light flurries higher up have helped keep piste surfaces in good condition. Daytime temperatures at altitude have been ranging between -8 and -5 degrees Celsius, with the freezing level hovering close to 1400m. Skiing conditions remain very good across most of the area, with well groomed pistes and pockets of packed powder on higher and north facing terrain. Lower and sunnier runs are firmer early in the day and tend to soften slightly by late morning or early afternoon. Winds have generally been light, with no notable disruption to lift operations.
Outlook & What’s On
The outlook for the coming days remains largely dry with a mix of cloud and brighter spells. Temperatures are expected to stay seasonable for late January, which should help preserve the existing snowpack rather than bring rapid changes. Any new snowfall looks light and mainly focused on higher elevations later in the week. In resort, Val d’Isère continues its winter programme with evening events, village activities and regular après ski entertainment adding atmosphere without affecting skiing days.

Val d’Isère is offering dependable mid winter skiing, with the best conditions holding on higher and north facing slopes where snow depth and quality remain most consistent. Early starts suit the lower runs before they firm up, while spending more time at altitude will give the best skiing over the next few days.
