Val D'Isere is holding onto a very solid base as March comes to a close, with the higher mountain still looking and feeling properly wintry in the mornings. There is a noticeable shift towards spring in the village and lower slopes, but once you head up towards Solaise and Pisaillas the coverage remains strong and consistent. The overall feel is of a resort that is transitioning gently, rather than dropping off, with plenty of good skiing still to be had.
Snow and Weather Summary
Snow depths are currently around 90 to 130 cm at resort level, with between 220 and 300 cm higher up across the ski area and glacier sectors. Around 5 to 10 cm of fresh snow fell at altitude over the past couple of days, which has helped freshen the surface on the upper slopes without changing the underlying spring base. Coverage remains excellent across the higher terrain and good on all main runs back to resort.
Temperatures have been sitting between minus 8 and minus 3 degrees at altitude, while resort level has been seeing daytime highs of around plus 2 to plus 7 degrees. The freezing level has been hovering between 2200 and 2600 metres, dropping overnight and allowing for a reliable refreeze. Winds have generally been light to moderate, stronger at times on exposed ridges but not significantly impacting conditions.
Skiing is at its best early in the day, with firm, grippy pistes across most sectors. The recent light snowfall has improved surface conditions higher up, particularly around Pisaillas where the snow stays consistent for longer. As the day progresses, slopes soften into a classic spring surface, with lower runs becoming heavier and more variable by mid afternoon.
