The victory came after a year out of competition due to injury. The 30 year old sustained a fractured shin and underwent two knee operations after a high speed crash in a super G race in early 2013.

Her comeback was marked with a win in Lake Louise earlier this month taking the downhill victory and coming second in the super G. As she prepared for last weekends races in Val d'Isere the four time overall World Cup champion said, "I put the focus on speed because, as I’ve said, I had very little training and I feel more and more comfortable, more and more aggressive with each run. I don't know if I'll do slalom again. But we'll see. I haven't skied slalom since my injuries, so I don't know how it feels yet."

However Saturday saw her take a great victory in the downhill over Germany's Viktoria Rebensburg and Austria's Elisabeth Goergl who came joint second behind Vonn. Sunday's super G was a different story with a worrying crash for Vonn near the start of the course. Elisabeth Goergl took the top podium spot followed by fellow Austrain Anna Fenninger.

Walking away from Sunday's crash and her last race of 2014 Vonn said, “The snow was kind of breaking up, I hit some soft stuff and wasn’t able to make the gate. That happens sometimes in super-G. It’s difficult to gauge how fast you’re going to be going in some sections.” Vonn reluctantly iced her swelling right elbow and believed it was “just a bruise.”

"The positive thing is that my knees are good and I'm still going home for Christmas with a big smile," added the American who was in Val d'Isere with her boyfriend, golf champion Tiger Woods.
