Discover the latest Val d'Isere snow conditions
Here we are, back for the winter season snow reports and Val d’Isère is ready to go. The resort opens fully this weekend, 29 November and will run right through to 3 May 2026. Snow cover is looking excellent for this time of year, with around 58cm down in the village and 105cm up at 3,000m. On 26 November, a fresh dump added 62cm, topping up an already solid base. Temperatures this weekend are expected to hover around -2°C to -3°C, dropping to around -7°C on Monday, with light snow possible on Sunday. Avalanche risk is currently rated 3 out of 5, so off‑piste adventures will need caution, although the prepared slopes are already riding well.
The first big dumps of the season have left Val d’Isère with deep powder and a strong early‑season base. The coming days look mostly dry with clear skies at times and freezing nights, allowing the snowpack to settle. Daytime temperatures will creep above zero but nothing extreme, giving crisp, cold mornings and pleasant sun on the slopes. A light dusting of snow may fall on Sunday, but it is unlikely to dramatically alter conditions. Early-season piste runs and first tracks should be excellent.
This winter Val d’Isère has a few new touches to enjoy. The Vallon de l’Iseran area at the top of the Fornet cable car now offers a cosy lounge with wide windows over the valley, perfect for a pause before heading up the Vallon gondola. At the summit, the immersive “Legend of Mont Iseran” installation tells the story of the mythical 17th-century climb.
For beginners or those sticking to easier runs, the “Ski Tranquille” signage has been extended to the Bellevarde sector, helping navigate green and blue slopes and return to the village easily. New terraces at Fornet and Madeleine provide relaxation areas with binoculars and orientation tables, ideal for soaking in the views. Dining and après‑ski options also continue to grow, with new restaurants blending traditional alpine flavours with lively atmospheres.
The first events of the season are happening this weekend, giving visitors the chance to test the latest skis and snowboards, enjoy live music, and sample mulled wine at the tourist office.
In December, the Critérium de la Première Neige brings the first men’s and women’s World Cup downhill and giant-slalom races of the season to the Face de Bellevarde and OK slopes. The two weekends of racing attract huge crowds and a carnival-like atmosphere, with evening concerts, DJs, ski and gear exhibitions, Savoyard specialties, and the resort centre closed to traffic.
