Val D'Isere begins March with the mountain still looking properly alpine from village level right up to the glacier. The snowpack is deep across the higher sectors and the pistes above La Daille and Solaise are holding their shape well after a busy half term period. There is a settled feel across the area now, with consistent conditions and reliable coverage across the linked terrain with Tignes.
Snow and Weather Summary
Current snow depths are around 95 to 115 cm at resort level at 1850 metres, with between 200 and 280 cm reported on the upper slopes above 2700 metres, particularly around Pisaillas glacier at 3300 metres. A recent light snowfall of around 5 to 15 cm has refreshed higher terrain, improving surface quality on exposed runs while the underlying base remains strong and well consolidated.
Temperatures have ranged from minus 11 to minus 6 degrees on upper slopes and the glacier, with between minus 3 and plus 2 degrees in the village depending on sunshine. The freezing level has generally fluctuated between 1500 and 1900 metres, dropping overnight and allowing for effective refreezing on groomed pistes. Winds have been mostly light to moderate, occasionally stronger at higher elevations but without significant disruption to lift operations.
On piste, the best conditions are found above 2200 metres where snow remains firm and grippy throughout much of the day. North facing slopes are holding particularly well and offer consistent surfaces from morning to afternoon. Mid mountain terrain is skiing nicely in the mornings and softens slightly on sunnier aspects later in the day without becoming overly heavy. The link across to Tignes is in strong condition, with reliable snow coverage across the entire ski area.
