Val d'Isere Apres Ski Report: 13th January 2012

Checking out the new bar in town

featured in Nightlife reviews Author Katherine Harle, Updated

Blue skies are back in Val d’Isere and, after last week’s storms with 200kph winds, they are very, very welcome.

Things are starting to fall into a routine with Christmas and New Year out of the way and with these blue skies it’s time for early nights and that means going out for après ski, then heading home for dinner then bed.

With this in mind I went along to check out the new bar in town; The Fall Line.

For those of you who’ve been coming to Val d’Isere for a while, you might know this bar by its former name, Bar Le Foret. It’s located out of town a bit. If you head past the bus station towards La Daille, take the first road on the left and carry on up the hill and you’ll find it at the top of the road on the right.

The Foret has been a bit of a locals bar for a while but the new Fall Line has had a complete revamp. I went up and had a chat to Ben who’s one of the new owners.

Ben told me that they wanted to go for a bit of a lounge bar, a relaxed place where you can meet up with friends, have a drink and a chat and with loads of comfy sofas. It looks like they’ve achieved it.

But it’s not all laid back times. The lads who’ve taken over include Jono (ex-Bananas), Ben (ex Saloon), Fraser (ex Dick’s) and they are well known for their wide knowledge of drinks and drinking games, and a few notorious drinking activities probably best not mentioned here, so if you’re up for a bit of drinking fun, these guys can definitely help you along there too.

There’s also a baby-foot table if that’s what you’re into.

So, the rosta of weekly events goes like this:

Tonight is Thirsty Thursdays, all day buy 4 pints and get the 5th free.

Friday nights is the Gentleman’s Club, where fella’s who dress smart can get their Whisky Sours for 5€ and After Eight shooters for 3€.

Sunday is Chalet Girl Sunday where Bloody Mary’s are only 6€. So if you want to find where you’re host is after their busy changeover weekend, this is probably where they’ll be!

Monday is pub crawl day around town so if you’re on one, you’ll pass by anyway.

Tuesday night is ladies night so come down, girls, and get your wine for 3€, Cosmopolitans for 5€ and Jager-bombs for €3.50 and of course check out handsome Giles behind the bar.

Finally, Wednesday night is the day to check out Apres Ski Madness between 4 and 7pm with house shots for only 2€ and jager-bombs for €3.50.

So with all these drink offers as well as DJs and special events it’s worth the walk to check it out.

That’s it from me this week so TTFN and stay safe.
