It’s been a busy week for me this week. I’ve had friends visiting and what with going on the hill, going out and working, I’m barely keeping my eyes open. Luckily, on my day off I got a lie in before heading up the hill and then in the evening we headed out for a meal.
Most weeks, we don’t think Mum would mind too much what we do. We’re adults, we’re financially dependent, and, you know, we can legally drink. But last week, last week was a whole different story. Unfortunately, the game of GNAR came back to Val with a vengeance. If you are unfamiliar with this concept, you can stumble upon a video posted by some of our competitors on youtube… But first, let me explain.

It’s been a lovely week weather-wise with clear blue skies everyday and although it’s a bit cold, if you wrap up warm you don’t feel it. The pistes are great and it’s clouded over today in preparation for the snow that’s forecast for these next few days. Life is good here in Val d’Isere.
Val D’isere has come to life. In the space of a week, the town has transformed from a tranquil green and brown to a vibrant snowy paradise. In a mere 48 hours, around a metre of snow fall and an influx of thousands of season workers has drastically changed the autumnal landscape into the resort that is renowned as one of the biggest and best in the world.
After the PDA's (Public Displays of Affection) cleared this week with Cupids departure, they were quickly replaced by the now very familiar sight of fat snow flakes. We were again treated to snow upon snow upon snow, which is quickly turning February into one of my favourite months of the year.
This week was Valentine’s Day and just happened to be my day off too. I made the most of it by going out for dinner with my partner. By the time we were both ready to go it was getting quite late, as in 10pm late! So we decided to head down to the Taverne d’Alsace, located beneath the Billabong Café and Hotel Kandahar, on the opposite side of the roundabout from the bus station.
This winter in Tignes, seasonnaires and holiday makers in-the-know have been lucky enough to bear witness to a new epic night out. An alpine music initiative described by its creator as “summer festival vibes in the snowy alpine playground” known by the name of Bass Station.
We meant to do a lot more partying in the last couple of weeks, but with the injuries we faced after getting a bit too excited about the amount of snow we’ve had, it's been a little complicated. Crutches, arm slings, and concussions just don’t seem to do so well in the partying circuit. But, we’re back!
December has come round very quickly this year, we will be seeing 2015 in very shortly, but before that we still have a few weeks of events in Val D!
Blue skies are back in Val d’Isere and, after last week’s storms with 200kph winds, they are very, very welcome.
In Val d’Isere, it can be hard to catch up with friends when you’re all working a lot and days or nights off don’t coincide. I hadn’t seen my friend for a few weeks and it turns out we both had the same night off so we decided to make a night of it; get dressed up and have a classy night.
The Moris has had a bit of a face lift since last season and now has a new, light wooden interior and a lot more light compared to last season. Walking in, it already feels like a Pub that is a lot more likely to produce high quality food. I approached the bar and was greeted by 3 friendly members of staff.
It’s been one hell of a musical week! With the après music sessions taking place every day, it’s surprising our lives haven’t become a singing only musical!
Just like Bob Marley sang, here in Val d’Isere the sun is shining and weather is sweet. Unlike Bob though, this doesn’t make you want to get on your dancing feet but rather grab a chair in the sun and kick back and relax.
