One Dead in an Avalanche Yesterday in Bonneval-sur-Arc
Five people swept away by the avalanche & sadly one person died
A group of 9 back country skiers who were touring near the Refuge du Carro in Bonneval-sur-Arc, close to Val d'Isere, were involved in an avalanche yesterday.
Five of the party were swept off their feet by the slide, one man being buried under a metre of snow. By the time the man was dug out of the snow and the rescue teams arrived, he had suffered a heart attack. Attempts to revive him were sadly unsuccessful.
Despite bad weather, the party were all evacuated by CRS helicopter.
An investigation is currently under way as to the cause of the avalanche.
Our thoughts are with the man's family & friends.
