Val d'Isere Snow Report: 9th February 2015

Bluebirds for days in the Espace Killy

featured in Snow report Author Holly Millar, Val d'Isere Reporter Updated

Sunshine and super snow conditions are in the cards for Tignes this week. After some seriously awesome snowfalls last week, the clouds have parted and we are going to enjoy some perfect bluebirds for the next couple days. Time to work on that goggle tan!

The mountains are looking in top form this week after the Espace Killy finally got the snow it deserved. We now have a very healthy base of snow and many of the rocky/grassy areas have been covered up. The base at Tignes Le Lac (2100m) has more than doubled since the last week of January, so this is great news for the rest of the season.

Beautiful bluebird days are currently in the forecast until Thursday, where we will start to see some light snow fall. No major storms like last week, but we will take what we can get! At the moment, around 20cm is predicted for Friday and Saturday so let's hope that weather stays in the forecast.

With high quality snow on the slopes and unlimited visibility, it's always fun to take a cruise around the resort and check out some new pistes. Living in Tignes, sometimes we forget what Val D'Isère has to offer! Especially when the sun is shining.

Sunday we ventured over to the Val D'Isère side of the resort. After cruising around for a while, we took a break and visited the famous Maison Chevallot bakery. Known by many as the best patisserie around, the place was packed and smelling absolutely delicious. We picked up a couple pastries but I will definitely be back to sample some of the other delicious creations. The bakery also serves warm breakfast in the very cute and cozy room.

With Valentines Day on the horizon, it might be a good idea to start thinking how to spend the day with that special someone. Hitting the slopes then popping in for a romantic tartine for two in Val D'Isère might just do the trick! Plus a box of chocolates might melt in you ski jacket...

Another good reason to venture over to Val this week is to see 'Wild Kong' at the top of the Téléphérique Olympique. This massive red gorilla overlooking the Espace Killy is an art installation presented by Val D'Isère that was created by artist Richard Orlinski. A gorilla in the Alps? That's definitely worth a picture or two.

Have fun in the sunshine!
