Snow Report, 21 December 2023

featured in Snow Report Author Caro Blackwell, Destination Editor Updated

We did get the forecast cooler weather at the end of last week and several cms of new snow. It’s been a sunny start to the week in Val d'Isere with milder temperatures than normal, although temperatures dropping and cloudier from Wednesday with light snowfall. For this time of the season, snow depths above 1800/2000 metres are very good.

Thursday and Friday this week will remain cold with a good snow fall of around 27cm, a maximum temperature of around -3°C and a freezing level down to 1700 metres. From Saturday it’s looking like we will have a sunny and warmer few days over Christmas. Towards the end of next week, from Thursday it will be cooling down again and we could be in for quite a lot of snow! But that’s quite far out to call accurately yet!

Christmas week is here and the resort is buzzing with families, twinkling with pretty lights and the big man himself can be seen darting around the resort with his elves in tow. Enjoy après-ski and vin chaud or hot chocolate as you wait for the big day to arrive.

You’ll see ESF instructors leading their torchlit descents and fireworks will light the skies.

Planning ahead

If you are heading out to celebrate New Year’s Eve - book now! The bars and restaurants only have limited space, the resort will be full and some restaurants are offering two sittings. You will find it difficult to get into places if you haven’t booked your restaurant in advance.

January is a fabulous time to ski in Val d'Isere. The snow is good, the slopes are quieter, accommodation is normally better value and flights are cheaper. It’s easier to get your favourite table in your preferred mountain restaurant in January.  Check out What's on in January in Val d'Isere.
So if you haven’t planned your winter ski holiday yet, check out some of the great chalets and offers.
