Continued sunshine with a little snow on the forecast
Some good snow to be found if you work for it!
The sunshine has continued non-stop and I can’t remember the last time I saw a cloud. It will be a shock to the system one morning when we wake up to grey skies with flat-light and not being able to see a thing, but as long as clouds bring snow we’ll take it.
The forecast for the next week however is solid sunshine with a few clouds floating about on Friday, but we’ll wait and see. A couple of days ago we were expecting some snow this Tuesday and Wednesday and just when we were getting hopeful the forecast was changed back to clear blue skies!
I’ve had a fantastic weekend off-piste and we’ve ‘sniffed’ out some wonderful snow. On Friday we ‘skinned’ up to the Crete du Genepy and found some great frisset and on Saturday we walked for one-hour-and-twenty-minutes and skied the Col des Fours, where the snow was good enough but the scenery was stunning! On New Year’s Day we skied some lovely soufflé in the Vallonnet and some soft snow in the Arcelle.
I’ve had my daughter Millie skiing with me in the mornings over the past ten-days and her younger sister Katie in the afternoon, and it’s been a lot of fun taking them to some beautiful places. (See photos) Their holiday has unfortunately come to an end and I took them down to Lyon last night and I’ll miss them as they won’t be back until February half-term! And what a nightmare the journey to the airport was with extremely heavy traffic and fog!
The piste skiing has been really decent and much better than this time last season. The resort has worked incredibly hard on the grooming and snow-making and their efforts have been very noticeable with the quality of the pistes. This coming week will be even busier than last week and the pistes will be severely tested, but there is a good base and with the runs being re-worked every night you should be in for some great skiing.
As usual my advice is to get out early, ski over the lunch hour, and take the lifts down at the end of the day if you’re tired or a non-expert. The last runs of the day are icy and horribly crowed so the lifts are a good option! And please ski under control as there are children about and novice skiers who cannot protect themselves.
