Bars and nightlife in Val d'Isère

The best places to go for a night out

featured in Nightlife guide Updated

Val d'Isere wouldn't be the resort it is without a good dose of après-ski to end the day.

There is no shortage of places to go for a few drinks and some live music after a day on the mountain.

Whether you prefer to soak up the late afternoon sun with a quiet glass of French wine or dance on the tables in your ski boots, beer jug in hand, Val d'Isere has plenty of great spots when the lifts shut for the day.

Après-ski

With a lively and vibrant après-ski scene, Val d'Isere has plenty of spots opening their doors to welcome you off the pistes.

A legendary piste-side après ski bar that needs no introduction, La Folie Douce opens early in the afternoon. Think Ibizan beach party on the snow. The DJ starts around 15:00 and really gets the show going with the help of professional singers and dancers. The huge outside decking area is full almost every day with tourists and seasonnaires alike, partying until the sun goes down over the mountain peak. La Folie is located half way down the OK piste on the way to La Daille. If you're unsure of the location, just follow the pumping music, you'll be able to hear it from miles away!

Is Val d'Isère's resort centre Cocorico is located just off the Rond Point roundabout underneath the Solaise bubble lift. It too has a large outside terrace and gets busy around 15:00 with live music from 16:00 and a DJ from 18:00-20:00. Saloon is a great option for a drink after skiing, where you can enjoy a few games of pool or beer pong whilst enjoying reasonable prices on drinks. Victors offers a more relaxed atmosphere, take a seat and still enjoy good drinks and live music through the week. A short walk from the heart of resort is La Taverne Bar, part of the Kandahar Hotel, it's a perfect après sport with a warm and cosy traditional alpine interior, and if you get settled in don't worry, you can stay for dinner. Their restaurant has a fantastic reputation and is rightly so popular with the locals.

Les Barmes de l'Ours Bar is for you if you're after a more stylish form of après ski, located next to the Face piste you can enjoy the open fire, piano music and a wide selection of fine wines, beers and spirits. For cocktails head to the bar at the Tsanteleina Hotel, Bar M

In La Daille, the Hotel bar of Le Samovar Hotel has many a comfy seat by the fire, or grab a pew out on the terrace and reflect on your day's skiing.

Late nights

If you're looking for some late night fun you're in luck, there are several bars and clubs in resort that stay open until the early hours of the morning. You'll also find that most hotel bars will remain open for as long as all of the guests are in there having a good time.

Victors, Café Face and Saloon are all bars that are open until 01:30, and Underground Café and Le Petit Danois are open until 02:00.

Dick’s Tea Bar is a Val d'Isère institution and always a good option for late night partying. With great resident DJs as well as guest appearances, the music is always fantastic and keeps the regular clientele coming back week after week. It's open until 04:00. Another spot always hosting well known DJ's (Pete Tong, Danny Howard to name a few) with regular parties throughout the season, Doudoune Club is open from 23:00-05:00. You also have Le Graal Club and Krystal nightclub to try out if you still have the energy.

Sophisticated spots

If you're looking for a more civilised evening or have something to celebrate, there are several hotel bars in the resort that cater to wine enthusiasts, cocktail aficionados and casual drinkers alike, and many will also have live music. Some offer a little snack alongside your choice of beverages, ranging from a bowl of nibbles to an entire tapas board.

La Cave sur le Comptoir has a good selection of French wines and champagnes, and offer small food platters to accompany your chosen vintage. You can also buy wine to take away if you are self-catering. Ormelune Bar is a chic bar that serves great cocktails as well as beers, wines and spirits, and you can always grab a bit to eat from their restaurant.

Close to the pistes and a popular choice for those after a lounge bar atmosphere on their way home from skiing, Le Jack Bar has a full cocktail menu that is well worth exploring. They also have a delicious snack menu, making it one of the more well-known lounge bars in Val d'Isère.

Live music

Live music is not that hard to find in Val. From the smallest bar to the swanky hotel lounges, there's always something on. Specific information regarding weekly line ups can be easily found by simply looking at any of the numerous information boards around resort, where each of the individual bars will post their weekly programmes and promotions.

Le Lodge in the centre is the place to head to for live music and good times, they're open until 01:30 meaning you can start here and finish here if you can't be bothered moving. Their restaurant also serves a good fondue and pizzas amongst other classics, and is open until 23:00. Another lively spot with regular live music is Le Salon des Fous, they usually have a good après-ski band playing on the terrace during the season.

The Alexandra Bar is opposite La Poste at the Hotel la Galise and has periodic live music, so it's worth asking if they have any during your stay. They have great beers on tap, a decent well-priced wine list and their bar snacks from the team at Four Seasons Take Away.
