At 2770m, the Col de l'Iseran is the highed paved mountain pass in the Alps, and after a not-so-snowy winter season, it opens today, Friday 5th June.

The Col d'Iseran was first used in the Tour de France bicycle race in 1938 and has remained a favourite route for many cyclists, motorbikers and tourers ever since.

Part of the route des Grandes Alpes, it connects the Tarentaise valley with the Maurienne valley and is only open in summer months.
