Val d'Isere Snow Report: 3rd March 2014

Blue Sky to White Out but a Big Dump on the Way

featured in Snow report Author James Fisher, Val d'Isere Video Reporter Updated

There has been a real mix of conditions over the last 24 hours in Val d'Isere. Yesterday skiers enjoyed perfect clear skies above the clouds but this morning the clouds are thicker and there's not much to see.

The highlight of the weekend depended on your preference for freestyle or freeride skiing. For fans of big air competitions the Frostgun Invitational final took place in near perfect conditions under the flood lights at the bottom of Le Face with Jasper Tjader taking first place with a sick double cork 1660. The event was a massive success with many comentators claiming that it was the best big air contest ever. See for yourself in the video on the right.

Sunday was the next highlight. Although from town it looked cloudy the clouds were thin and above them the sun was shining. We got sent some pictures from Pro Snowboarding of the inversion which you can see above. The other photos were taken by our friends at TDC and Alpine Experience and it's clear from them that as well as clear skies there was plenty of great powder too this weekend.

This morning conditions are not so photogenic in Val d'Isere. The clouds are back and it's a white out up on the open slopes. Although there was five centimetres of snow last night the really good news is there is lots more on the forecast with a big dump predicted tonight.
