Six people were injured on Saturday morning when the Rosolin lift derailed on the Grande Motte Glacier in Tignes.

According to reports the accident happened at 11.45 on Saturday morning when the cable on the Rosolin tow derailed and hit users as it crashed to the ground. One victim was a fifteen year old girl who was airlifted to hospital in Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne by the PGHM and treated for whip lash. She was later discharged after a scan proved that she was ok.

Among the people hit by the falling cable was French Team Skier Roger Brice who was training on the glacier and was struck on the shoulder. The team coach said that Brice was ok and that "He took a good shot on the shoulder. Nothing serious, he just stopped for a few minutes and then he even remade two runs downhill. It was just there at the wrong time, "

The lift has now been closed and an investigation into how the incident occurred has been requested.
