After days of heavy snowfall and a beautiful bluebird skiing day forecast for Sunday, everything looked set for a truly memorable skiing day in the Espace Killy. Unfortunately, no one seemed to have told the new Fontaine Froide chairlift the plan and yesterday afternoon, Val d'Isere's newest lift decided to break down leaving 150 skiers stranded and well...pretty cold...

While all of the skiers stuck on the chairlift were evacuated safely, one of the rescuers was actually injured in the incident. The 45 year old suffered a fractured femur in the process and was evacuated by helicopter to the hospital in Bourg St Maurice.

To more details of what's new - and hopefully functioning more smoothly - in resort, check out our report on What's New in the Espace Killy
