Val d'Isere Snow Report: 4th December 2014

featured in Snow report Author Sam Brown, Val d'Isere Reporter Updated

With both Val d’Isere and Tignes now open in certain areas the season is well and truly underway.

The Glacier du Pissaillas and Grand Motte glacier are both open and offering some great skiing for those willing to climb high and make the most of some excellent early season conditions.

The snow quality on piste is second to none and with the freezing level dropping lower as the week moves on will remain consistent for the foreseeable future. Skiing is limited to these two areas for the time being until further snowfall allows the opening of lower pistes.

Off piste skiing is obviously limited at this early stage of the season. However there were some very nice lines of fresh turns out towards Pays Desert with plenty of untracked areas. A short walk or a quick tour could well be rewarded with some nice descents with fresh snow.

With temperatures dropping over this week and snow predicted for the end of the week, we should hopefully see the skiable area extended and a solid base set down for the season.
