Settling in around the large fireplace, you can unwind with a variety of beers, wines, spirits, or expertly crafted cocktails, all served in a chilled yet elegant setting. The ambiance strikes the perfect balance between sophistication and comfort, making it easy to relax and recharge.

La Taverne d’Alsace in Val d’Isere offers a warm and characterful dining experience inspired by the traditions of an Alpine winstub. Located beneath Hôtel Kandahar, this cosy Alsatian brasserie is the perfect place to unwind after a day on the slopes or exploring the resort, where generous flavours and comforting dishes take centre stage.

Inside, you’ll find a welcoming, wood-lined interior with rustic charm and an inviting atmosphere. Regional traditions sit happily alongside classic brasserie dishes, creating a menu that’s rich in both taste and variety. The wine list is equally impressive, offering an eclectic and thoughtfully curated selection that will delight knowledgeable wine lovers. Alsace wines are a particular highlight, with Muscat, Gewurztraminer, and Crémant making excellent choices for a relaxed apéritif.

Take a seat at one of the wooden tables and enjoy a menu that ranges from much-loved Alsatian classics, such as choucroute garnie and baeckeoffe, to more modern plates including beef fillet and scallop risotto. The balance between tradition and creativity is handled with care and confidence.

At the helm is Michel Wehrung, who has led the kitchen for over twenty-five years. Trained in Strasbourg, his meticulous approach delivers beautifully presented, flavour-packed dishes that celebrate Alsatian cuisine. Part wine cellar, part bar, and part counter kitchen, it offers an intimate atmosphere that feels welcoming from the moment you step inside.

The space is cleverly arranged into small, cosy areas, making it ideal for opening a bottle with friends and lingering over conversation. The focus here is firmly on wine. With around one thousand bottle references and roughly thirty wines served by the glass, the selection is impressive and carefully curated. La Cave sur le Comptoir specialises in wine and offers very few other drinks, allowing the team to concentrate on quality and expertise.

To accompany your glass, you’ll find tapas designed for sharing, alongside a counter-style menu inspired by bistronomic cuisine. In addition to classic sharing boards, the dishes are thoughtfully prepared to complement the wines. The venue is also a member of the Collège Culinaire de France, highlighting its commitment to promoting high-quality artisanal products.

Antoine, the owner, was awarded the title of Maitre Caviste this year, recognising both his deep knowledge of wine and the excellence of his selection. There are no reservations, so simply drop in, choose a bottle, and enjoy the moment.

Chez Jules – Le Coin des Amis is a small but hugely popular bar right in the heart of Val d’Isere, run by Jules himself, a retired competitive skier who now presides over one of the friendliest spots in resort. Known by many as the place to find the best genepy in town, it’s a must-visit if you want to sample this local favourite in the right setting.

What really sets Le Coin des Amis apart is its warm, welcoming atmosphere. It’s a place where locals and visitors mix easily, whether you’re popping in for a morning coffee, stopping by for an après-ski drink, or settling in for a relaxed evening with friends. The service is consistently friendly and personal, adding to the bar’s laid-back charm.

If you’re feeling hungry, there’s an added bonus. Excellent Thai food is available to eat in or take away, making it a great option for a casual meal alongside your drink. During big sporting events, the bar really comes alive, with large screens set up inside or outside, plenty of team colours on display, and a buzzing crowd.
