This weekend over 30 000 cars are expected up the Alpine valleys towards the various ski resorts and with snow forecast to as low as 500 metres conditions are likely to be difficult.

Motorists travelling this weekend be prepared

The gendarmerie will be stopping motorists to ensure they are equipped with snow chains or snow tyres, without such equipment motorists will be turned around.

A full fleet of snow-ploughs will be doing the rounds day and night to keep the roads as clear as possible but with this traffic will be slow.
