Le Cure de France Charity Cycle Ride

An ambitious plan to cycle across France for charity

featured in News & reviews Author Ellie Mahoney, Val d'Isere Editor Updated

George Long used to work with us here at SeeValdIsere.com so when he said he was embarking on a bit of a bike ride for charity, tackling three of the Tour de France’s most iconic climbs; Mont Ventoux, Col du Galibier and l’Alpe d’Huez we thought are you mad?!?

George & 22 other ambitious, amateur cyclists will be travelling 224 miles (360 km) in 4 days from 10th - 14th September this year, from Carpentras in the West of Provence all the way to Alpe d'Huez in the French Alps, ending with an arduous climb up the infamous 21 bends. Take a look at their route here.

The team are by no means used to this amount of cycling; some of them are completely new to road biking, some can just about remember passing their cycling proficiency test back in the 80's, or haven't even sat on a bike in 20 years...

Others have had experience of triathlons, are regular cyclists or admit to being slightly obsessed by cycling, but even still it's going to be a tough challenge for them and all involved.

The reason they're doing this? A friend was diagnosed with breast cancer last year and the team at the Royal Marsden Hospital in London not only treated her but completely wiped out her cancer with a treatment of drugs that had previously only been trialled in the US.

The Royal Marsden Hospital is one of the largest Breast Units in the UK, treating over 700 patients with newly diagnosed breast cancer every year. As well as delivering a state of the art clinical service, the Breast Unit is also at the forefront of clinical and biological research into the nature and treatment of this major disease.
